Press Release

On 26-27 October 2016 Danish Maritime will host a technological summit in Copenhagen for the international maritime industry, and again HRH Prince Joachim will be a keynote speaker.

In late October, during Danish Maritime Days, the technological maritime summit, Danish Maritime Technological Conference, will, as last year, see HRH Prince Joachim deliver a keynote speech. In 2015, HRH Prince Joachim gave the closing speech and followed it up with a visit to several stands of maritime busi-nesses at the Danish Maritime Fair. This year, he will deliver the opening speech.

“The distinct commitment shown by Prince Joachim is of high significance for the Danish maritime businesses, no less because it is a clear sign to their customers and business partners that the Danish maritime industry is valuable to Denmark and is given strong national attention”, says Jenny N. Braat, Managing Di-rector of Danish Maritime.

This year, the Danish Maritime Technology Conference will focus on a trade undergoing huge transformation. The maritime industry is on the brink of a new technological revolution where digitization of the world fleet, Big Data, 3D printing and new approaches to business models require technological expertise. Concurrently, the historically large world fleet needs maintaining and updating to comply with tightened environmental demands. Danish Maritime and the Danish equipment suppliers will present and discuss technologies, ship design, regulation and packaged solutions for shipping of the future.

The knowledge and involvement that HRH Prince Joachim has in the maritime world and technological innovation is reflected in his patronage of for instance the Training Ship DANMARK, The Wadden Sea Centre, Fjord & Bælt (a research and experience centre on marine life in Danish waters), the Danish competition called ‘Unge Forskere’ (an annual competition for young researchers working in the fields of natural sci-ence), the Danish Society for Education and Business (DSEB) and The Danish Museum of Science and Technology.

HRH Prince Joachim has a good understanding of global shipping from his employment with The Maersk Group, in both Hong Kong and France in 1993-1995, with the purpose of broadening his business experi-ence in addition to his agricultural background. Prince Joachim is also a colonel in the Army reserve.

Danish Maritime Technology Conference will be held at Lokomotivværkstedet in Copenhagen, and it is supported by The Danish Maritime Fund.
